Meet Dr. Baidwan MD, Founder of I.M. Well.
Meet Dr. Sanjeet K. Baidwan MD.
What does a perfect Sunday look like?
Laying in bed till 10am with my husband and our two dogs. Reading the newspaper and then moseying to a neighborhood spot for brunch. Gardening. I randomly became garden obsessed during the pandemic and have turned every bit of usable outdoor space on our patio into a mini NYC flower, herb, and veggie garden. Reading a really good book in a sun spot with my dogs.
What issue is top of mind for you in medicine?
There are a few, but I suppose most recently it’s misinformation. There is a lot of predatory marketing at play. I really liked this refinery29 article where the writer succinctly stated “I find the way celebrities latch on to wellness trends and dish out subpar advice nauseating; it exacerbates the deep fears I have around health post-pandemic. Then I get curious about their musings, search online for problems I don’t really have, then find hard-to-pronounce supplements to fix these imagined problems.” I want better for my friends, family, and patients.
Song on repeat these days?
Jewel in the Lotus by Bliss Looper, Activation
Favorite NY neighborhood?
Red Hook in Brooklyn!
Why did you start I.M. Well Medical?
I needed to practice medicine in a way that was authentic to me. I was burnt out during the pandemic and could’t handle how much influence insurance companies have over both patients and physicians. I needed more than 8 minutes with every patient. I’m old school and like to know my patients as people - what they’re up to for the weekend, how the new apartment is, if their dog’s surgery went well or not. Traditional models don’t always offer that because they really can’t. They’re set up to fail. I.M. Well Medical allowed me to have longer appointments, offer more cosmetic and aesthetic services, and also service populations that are traditionally left out of healthcare.
Favorite book?
Mountains by Mountains by Tracy Kidder.
Any good recent shows?
Misty by Arinzé Kene at the Shed! Truly like nothing I’ve seen before.
Most interesting place you’ve ever traveled?
The Perito Moreno Glacier in the Patagonia outback. My husband and I backpacked across Patagonia on our honeymoon and it was spectacular. The ice was the size of NYC skyscrapers and when pieces would break off it sounded like thunder meets a large tree branch breaking followed by the whoosh as it fell into the water.
